VICTORY!

For [personal profile] spacehussy, because she inspired me to also want Hod to having matching thumbs-up hands. The hand on the left was made by casting a copy of his fist, cutting off the thumb, and sculpting a new thumb. In an amazing coincidence, the paint I bought for the SG Optimus repaint matches Hod's orange perfectly. shit.

Did some work on Wheeljack and Ironhide last night, doing some work in the actual craftroom instead of.. at the dinning table;;;

Three photos )

The other day Bolts and I were chatting in the car and accidentally (!?) combined two of our major interests to create a sort of... concept!bunny that won't fucking go away. Japanese culture and Transformers. Or more specifically, Yakuza and Decepticons. dkjsfhkldjshfkjdsh AGH MAKE THE IDEAS STOP I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DRAW THEM;;; ::explode::

So I found three super cheap revoltech Hot Rods on ebay the other night, which we'll be customizing to Ironhide, Wheeljack, and Ratchet. I'm also considering grabbing another Hot Rod to turn into Jazz.

So I grabbed the extra head that our Hot Rod came with (Why does Hod Rod come with an extra visored face???) and some sculpy and tried my hand at sculpting a Jazz head. I got his little side helm things done and put him in the toaster oven on very low heat to harden what I'd done. and... well... I discovered that Revoltech's plastic has a very low melting point.

As I had put the head face-down, his nose melted flat into his face and a crease from the foil he was sitting on gave him a butt-chin. The overall effect is quite.... derp.

This very important discovery means Bolts and I picked up resin sculpting clay that air dries! :D

Also, since the plastic is so very reactive to heat, I decided to mod the molded-for-Starscream faces that I thought Thundercracker and Skywarp were stuck with.

Using a pin heated by a lighter, I was able to give Thundercracker a kinda grimacey face super easily. Skywarp was much more of a challenge, for some reason. But I was able to wrangle his face to a :| face.. He looks a little more... blank.. than I wanted him too, but that works, right? XD

I very nearly ruined Skywarp's face once or twice and pulled on a fair bit of skill and a shit-ton of luck. So. Um. I'm very glad Skywarp still has a face. :D I really don't want to be forced to buy another Starscream. X[

I finally got around today to picking up paint for the two Revoltech Starscreams I bought to be turned into Thundercracker and Skywarp. :D

I found perfectly matching colors at the local nerd haven, Black Diamond Games. I picked up those paints usually used on Warhammer figurines, and so ended up with colors like: Fortress Grey, Blood Red, and Enchanted Blue. My favorite is Hormagaunt Purple.

However,I accidentally picked up Badab Black, which is a color wash, so I have to go back to get real black tomorrow. :T The color wash paint is awesome, though, so I'm keeping it.

After cooking and eating dinner with the girls, I invited Bolts to help me paint, and we chatted about her writings and about toys we wanted. I fetched the other Revoltech toys and we brainstormed how to turn a Hot Rod figurine into Ironhide or Wheeljack.

Her best idea, though, was to turn our albino Optimus Prime Ultra Magnus into a toy we'd actually care about: Shattered Glass Optimus Prime! ;D

Great idea or greatest idea?
